The story
Kapetanova kuća sits along the Neum coastline, where Chef Lidija Kralj guides a kitchen rooted in Croatian seafood cuisine. The family transformed a historic house into this coastal dining room in nineteen ninety eight, building their approach around local harvests and seasonal catches. An on site organic garden supplies herbs that bridge traditional recipes with contemporary plating. Every dish reflects a steady focus on regional ingredients rather than fleeting trends.
Guests typically begin with raw oysters pulled directly from Malo Ston Bay, dressed only with a squeeze of lemon to highlight their natural salinity. The kitchen also serves these shellfish prepared in tempura, lightly breaded, or simmered into a rich creamy soup. A deep black cuttlefish ink risotto carries the restaurant’s name and delivers a pronounced maritime depth. Grilled sea bream and homemade pasta tossed with local shrimp round out the main courses, while a warm Ston cake featuring pasta pastry, nuts, chocolate, and cinnamon closes the meal.
The terrace overlooks the bay, placing diners within earshot of passing boats and the quiet rhythm of the Adriatic. Manager Željko Kralj emphasizes preserving historical heritage alongside the daily preparation of fresh catch. Local Pelješac wines pair naturally with the briny shellfish and herb infused vegetables from the family garden. This measured approach to coastal cooking rewards visitors who prefer unadorned flavors and consistent execution over theatrical presentation.
