The story

Casa 201 – Michelin-Starred French Tasting Menu in Rio de Janeiro

Casa 201: Intimate French Dining in Rio de Janeiro

At Casa 201, the approach is personal. Chef João Paulo Frankenfeld welcomes just 32 guests per night, all at a single 8 pm seating. The setting is intimate, designed to feel less like a restaurant and more like a private home. The result is a focused, unhurried evening built around an eight-course tasting menu that changes with the seasons.

The kitchen’s French foundation is evident in the precision and structure of each course. A summer menu, for example, opens with house-made fermented breads and charcuterie, then moves through an amuse-bouche of crustacean with palm heart textures and gaseified green grape gazpacho. A rabbit tortelli with pumpkin and goat cheese in mustard sauce precedes a main of lamb with yogurt, eggplant, and fondant potato. The meal closes with a coconut and mango entremet paired with cashew nut gelato, followed by petits fours.

Casa 201 earned a Michelin star for this focused, high-quality cooking. It is a recognition that aligns with the restaurant’s ethos: to offer a singular, uncompromising experience in a city known for its vibrant dining scene. Reservations are essential, and the restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday.
