The story
Since 1979, Fogo de Chão has kept the culinary art of churrasco burning. The founders grew up on a traditional farm in the Serra Gaúcha, the mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sul, where they first learned the gaucho grilling tradition. After formal training in Rio and São Paulo, they opened their first restaurant in Porto Alegre. It quickly gained a reputation among politicians, businessmen, and celebrities who traveled from across Brazil to taste the experience. That reputation soon earned the concept a second location in São Paulo.
The restaurant on Avenida dos Bandeirantes embodies that same dedication. The experience is built around the rhythmic service of fire-roasted meats—from picanha and fraldinha to Wagyu cuts—carved tableside by gaucho chefs. Alongside the meats, the freshly curated Market Table and authentic Brazilian sides offer a vibrant counterpoint. The bar pours award-winning wines and cocktails, including the house caipirinha, a nod to the founders' heritage.
The restaurant’s commitment to quality and tradition has been recognized with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. This award reflects a wine program that complements the robust flavors of the churrasco experience. The culinary team continues to develop new creations rooted in Brazilian tradition, from seasonal seafood dishes to the Bar Fogo concept of Brazilian-inspired small plates.
Whether for a full churrasco dinner or a more casual visit to Bar Fogo, the São Paulo location offers a direct connection to the heritage that began in the hills of Rio Grande do Sul. The fire is kept ready.
