The story
Fogo de Chão began with a family tradition rooted in the mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sul. The founders grew up on a farm in Serra Gaucha, where they learned the art of churrasco – fire-roasting meats over open flames. After formal training in Rio and São Paulo, they opened their first restaurant in Porto Alegre. Its reputation quickly spread, drawing politicians, businessmen, and celebrities. Soon after, the second Fogo de Chão opened in São Paulo, bringing the full churrasco experience to the city.
At the Morumbi location, guests step into a space where the flames never stop. The restaurant’s signature is the continuous service of fire-roasted cuts, carved tableside by gaucho chefs. The menu highlights include Picanha (prime part of the top sirloin), Fraldinha (bottom sirloin), and the indulgent Beef Ancho Bone-in Ribeye. Alongside the meats, the Market Table offers a fresh, vibrant spread of seasonal salads, vegetables, and Brazilian sides. For a lighter touch, Bar Fogo serves Brazilian-inspired small plates and cocktails, including the classic Caipirinha.
The wine list at Fogo de Chão São Paulo has earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The Founders Tribute Wine Collection, named after the founding brothers, features selections from Argentina, Chile, and California. Each wine is chosen to complement the bold flavors of churrasco – from a silky Malbec with Picanha to a structured Cabernet Sauvignon with Filet Mignon. The restaurant also hosts special wine dinners, pairing premium vintages with chef-curated multi-course menus.
More than a meal, Fogo de Chão offers a complete immersion in Brazilian steakhouse culture. The open kitchen, the scent of wood-fired grills, and the rhythmic service create an atmosphere that is both energetic and welcoming. Since 1979, the fires have kept burning, and at this São Paulo outpost, the tradition continues with the same dedication to quality and hospitality that started it all.
