The story
Fogo de Chão is rooted in the mountainous landscapes of Rio Grande do Sul, where the founding brothers grew up on a traditional farm. There they learned the churrasco grilling tradition that would become the backbone of their life’s work. After formal training in Rio and São Paulo, they opened their first restaurant in Porto Alegre. Its reputation quickly spread, drawing politicians, businessmen, and celebrities. Soon after, a second restaurant opened in São Paulo – the city that remains home to this location on Av. Moreira Guimarães.
Since 1979, Fogo has kept the flames of churrasco burning. The experience here is built around continuous service of fire-roasted cuts, carved tableside by gaucho chefs. The menu includes signature cuts such as Picanha (prime part of the top sirloin) and Fraldinha (bottom sirloin), alongside a freshly curated Market Table with seasonal vegetables, salads, and authentic Brazilian sides. For those seeking variety, Bar Fogo offers Brazilian-inspired small plates and cocktails.
The wine program at Fogo de Chão has earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a testament to the care taken in building a list that complements the bold flavors of churrasco. The Founders Tribute Wine Collection, featuring red blends from Argentina, Chile, and California, is designed to pair with specific cuts – from the lean Picanha to the rich Wagyu New York Strip. This attention to pairing elevates the dining experience beyond the traditional steakhouse.
Beyond the dining room, Fogo de Chão offers private dining for groups and events, as well as catering and to-go options. The atmosphere is lively yet refined, with the energy of an open kitchen and the aroma of wood-fired grilling. Whether for a celebratory dinner or a casual lunch, the São Paulo location delivers the same dedication to quality that has defined the brand for over four decades.
