The story
Kuro, in São Paulo's Cerqueira César neighborhood, is the work of Davide Bernacca and Catalan chef Gerard Barberan. The space is deliberately intimate – a single counter with just ten seats, where tradition and modernity meet. For the second consecutive year, Kuro has been recognized with a star in the Michelin Guide 2025, a reflection of its commitment to freshness, elegance, and simplicity.
Dinner at Kuro follows the Japanese tradition of omakase – “trust the chef.” There is no à la carte menu. Instead, the itamae (sushi chefs) compose a tasting menu from the best ingredients available that day. Each course is presented simultaneously to all guests, ensuring a shared, focused experience. The menu changes with the seasons, and the price (R$ 650 per person, excluding drinks and service) adjusts accordingly to reflect the quality of the products.
The restaurant operates two seatings per night, Monday through Saturday: 19:00 and 21:15. Reservations are mandatory and require a R$ 300 per person deposit, which is deducted from the final bill. The kitchen has a strict five-minute grace period; after that, the menu begins for all guests, and missed courses cannot be repeated. The team asks about dietary restrictions at the time of booking, but the menu is fixed and cannot accommodate vegetarian or vegan options. Children are welcome only if they participate fully in the omakase.
Kuro shares its address with Shiro, a cocktail bar that complements the dining experience, but the restaurant itself is a focused, unhurried evening built on precision and seasonal ingredients.
