The story
On Rua Oscar Freire in São Paulo’s Jardins neighborhood, Tanit brings the spirit of the Spanish coast to Brazil. The restaurant is named for a Phoenician goddess once worshipped in Formentera and Ibiza, and the name sets the tone: bright, welcoming, and rooted in the Mediterranean. The space is well lit, with a pleasant outdoor veranda that recalls the lively seaside atmosphere of Catalonia.
Oscar Bosch was born in Catalonia and grew up in his family’s restaurant, Can Bosch, in Cambrils – a kitchen that has held a Michelin star for more than 30 years. Before moving to Brazil in 2009, Bosch refined his craft at three of the world’s most celebrated restaurants: El Bulli, El Celler de Can Roca, and the three-Michelin-starred Hof van Cleve. After consulting and launching a catering service, he opened Tanit in 2016. His work earned him Chef of the Year honors from Veja Comer e Beber and Quem Acontece in 2017, and a spot among Brazil’s rising gastronomic talents by GQ.
Tanit serves a personal take on Mediterranean cuisine, with a clear Catalan accent. The menu features tapas, sharing plates, and modern reinterpretations of traditional recipes. Drinks include gin and tonics and clericot, a Spanish-style sangria. The cooking is precise and ingredient-driven, reflecting Bosch’s training in some of Europe’s finest kitchens.
In 2026, Tanit earned a place among Michelin’s Recommended restaurants – a fitting acknowledgment for a chef whose family has been part of the Michelin world for decades. It is a destination for anyone seeking authentic, elevated Catalan-Mediterranean food in São Paulo.
