The story
Cabane d’à Côté is the orchard-born sibling of Au Pied de Cochon’s famous sugar shack, set on the neighbouring lands of the original érablière. Here, the team cooks in full view of guests, with the evaporator as the room’s centrepiece. The philosophy is rooted in self-sufficiency: nearly everything comes from the restaurant’s own gardens and nearby Quebec farms. The result is a fixed, shareable menu that changes monthly, tracking the harvest from spring through autumn.
The experience unfolds in a working orchard, where picnic tables are scattered under the trees. Guests can also book a private tented space for groups of 14 to 60, complete with a dedicated server, a sound system, and a lounge area with a fireplace. The atmosphere is intimate and convivial – a place to linger as daylight fades over the rows of apple trees.
Each month brings a new lineup. A recent picnic basket for two started with a buttermilk radish velouté, followed by a cheese feuilleté with marinated anchovies and olives. Mains offered a choice of pork socle with grilled-onion sauce, grilled pickerel fillet with almond gremolata, beef filet with herb butter, or lemon-glazed chicken with minty cucumber salad. Dessert was a Basque cake with dulce de leche and fruit. The menu is simple but precise, letting Quebec ingredients speak. This commitment to terroir and seasonality helped earn the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction – a nod to its honest, deeply local cooking.
Cabane d’à Côté turns the sugar-shack tradition into a year-round celebration of Québécois cuisine. There is no pretension, only good food born from the land. The team’s respect for the orchard, the garden, and the region’s farmers is evident in every dish. It is a place to eat well, simply, and memorably – exactly as the season intends.
