The story
In the heart of the Verdun neighbourhood, brothers Ari and Pablo Schor run Beba, an intimate restaurant they opened in 2019. The name honours their grandmother Vera, whom family and friends affectionately called “Beba.” The warmth of that personal connection carries through into the dining room, where the atmosphere is relaxed and the service genuinely welcoming.
The kitchen draws on the Spanish and Italian culinary traditions that settled in Argentina over generations. The result is a modern cuisine that feels both rooted and spontaneous. Menus change weekly, built around the best ingredients available each season, prepared with straightforward techniques that let the produce speak. A recent menu might begin with a potato knish topped with Osetra caviar, or a montadito of mackerel with sesame and horseradish. Dates stuffed with foie gras, pistachios and olive oil sit alongside an involtini of zucchini and Swiss chard with pine nuts and yoghurt. Heavier plates include tagliatelle with Mangalitsa pig ragù and Parmigiano Reggiano, grilled rabbit with white asparagus and brown butter béarnaise, and beef cheeks with morels, fava beans and red wine.
The wine list is carefully considered, with a strong selection of bottles from Quebec, France, Italy, Spain and beyond, as well as sherries and sakes. Cocktails are classic-leaning and well made. The overall feel is one of quiet confidence – a place that knows what it is doing and doesn’t need to shout about it.
Beba’s approach has not gone unnoticed. It earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a fitting recognition for a restaurant that combines personal history, seasonal cooking and a genuine sense of place in Montréal’s dining scene.
