The story

Le Petit Alep: Bib Gourmand Syrian & Armenian Cuisine in Montréal

Le Petit Alep: Syrian and Armenian Flavours on Jean-Talon

On Jean-Talon East, Le Petit Alep brings the cooking of Syria and Armenia to Montréal. The menu is a thorough exploration of mazza, grilled meats, and braised dishes, all made with a clear hand for spice and balance. A 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand recognises the kitchen’s consistent quality and value – a designation that fits a place where every dish earns its place.

The Menu, Dish by Dish

Start with the mazza section. Hommos is a classic purée of chickpeas and tahini lifted with cumin, lemon, and garlic; the Mouhamara blends breadcrumbs and walnuts with fléflé and pomegranate molasses. The Yalandji – vine leaves stuffed with rice, chickpeas, tomatoes, and walnuts, simmered in lemon and dill juice – are a vegetarian standout. For meat eaters, the Kébbé Nayé (beef tartare with bourghol and onions, spiced with fléflé) and the Akrass Naanaa (kefta and mint patty in a lemon-garlic oil) show the kitchen’s range.

Main courses lean into braised and grilled preparations. The Agneau is lamb braised with wine, port, and spices, served on chicken rice with almonds and pine nuts, alongside yogurt. Seafood is treated with the same care: the Samack Dahabi Harr grills walleye and tops it with sweet peppers, walnuts, and coriander, served with moujadara. The Arak sea bass is deglazed with arak and garnished with fennel and sweet pepper confit.

Atmosphere and Service

The dining room is straightforward and welcoming, with service that lets the food speak. The wine list is described as interesting, and the kitchen is open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday, with lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. Le Petit Alep is a place where Middle Eastern cuisine is presented with precision and warmth – no hype, just good cooking.
