The story
Since opening in 2015, Alo has evolved into an essential Toronto restaurant, recognized with a Michelin 1 Star for high quality cooking. Perched on the third floor of a Spadina Avenue building, the restaurant offers a dining experience defined by seasonality, craft, and quiet precision.
Alo’s philosophy is rooted in trust. The heart of the experience is a blind tasting menu – a multi-course journey thoughtfully crafted by the chefs, encouraging surprise and allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the kitchen’s creative vision. The cuisine is driven by seasonality, highlighting both local and international flavors while exploring classic French techniques. As the team puts it, they trust classic foundations, refining rather than reinventing. Each ingredient is handled with intention and respect, weaving a menu that reflects both past and present.
Behind every course is a team defined by expertise, trust, and collaboration. Chef/Owner Patrick Kriss leads the kitchen alongside Chef de Cuisine Tim Yun, Sous Chef Jacob Zuidervliet, and a dedicated front-of-house team including General Manager Shyanne Vautour, Wine Director Christopher Sealy, and Lead Bartender Joshua Chia. Their shared pursuit of excellence brings craft, care, and an atmosphere of effortless elegance to each evening.
Alo offers several distinct seating areas. The Dining Room is luxuriously refined with plush, intimate seating and offers a choice between 6- and 10-course tasting menus. The Kitchen Counter provides bar-style seating facing the open kitchen, where guests observe the precision and rhythm of service while enjoying the full 10-course menu. The Parlour Room, Alo’s cocktail bar and intimate dining space, offers a more relaxed yet equally refined setting, with options for elevated bar snacks or a 6-course tasting menu. Carefully curated wine pairings and a refined non-alcoholic pairing are available to complement each course.
