The story
Since opening in 2018, Alobar Yorkville has occupied a tucked-away spot along a pathway in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood. It presents itself as a cocktail bar, but the menu reveals a full-fledged à la carte restaurant. The focus is on choice seafood with fine accoutrements, fish and chops cooked over a charcoal grill, and a world-class wine list—all delivered with genuine hospitality.
The kitchen is led by Chef & Owner Patrick Kriss and Executive Chef John Buan. Their approach is direct: let the charcoal fire and the quality of the ingredients speak. This is French and seafood cooking that feels elemental, not fussy.
The space is anchored by a comfortable courtyard patio, where warm summer evenings pair naturally with ice-cold cocktails. Inside, the dining room and bar offer counter dining and table service. The mood is relaxed but polished—a place where the food earns the attention, not the decor.
Alobar Yorkville received a Michelin Star in 2022 and 2023, and continues to hold a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. The recognition is earned by the consistency of the cooking and the warmth of the service.
The menu changes with the seasons, but the throughline is seafood handled with precision and restraint. The charcoal grill adds a smoky depth to fish and chops. The cocktail program, overseen by Bar Manager Alyosha Popov, is equally serious—a bar that happens to serve one of Toronto’s best meals.
Reservations are released 60 days in advance via OpenTable, and parties of up to six are welcome. For larger groups, the team points guests to their sister location, Alobar Downtown in the Financial District.
