The story
Named after the stunning island in Southern Thailand, Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen brings the bold, aromatic flavours of that region to two Toronto locations. The restaurant’s chefs craft dishes rooted in authentic Southern Thai recipes, using fresh ingredients and traditional techniques. The kitchen’s commitment to regional depth has earned it a Michelin recommendation, a recognition it has held since 2022.
The menu is a tour of Southern Thailand’s distinct culinary identity. Signature dishes include the Khao Neow Gaeng, a stir-fried pineapple curry paired with coconut curry sticky rice, and Gaeng Gai Khao Mun, a dried chicken curry served with butterfly-pea-flower coconut rice, topped with shrimp, dried anchovies, and a homemade chilli tamarind paste. Seafood lovers will find Prik Pao Talay, a stir-fried smoked chilli platter with shrimp, mussels, squid, and basil. The Mee Puu—blue crab in creamy coconut curry over vermicelli with shrimp paste and betel leaf—has become a customer favourite, returning by popular demand.
The atmosphere is designed to feel like a warm, welcoming space where culture and comfort meet. Interiors are vibrant yet relaxed, with an emphasis on hospitality that “feels like home.” The team describes the restaurant as a place for “moments shared over flavours and laughter.”
Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen’s Michelin recommendation reflects its dedication to authentic Southern Thai cuisine—a style that remains rare in North America. The restaurant’s own team states: “We strongly believe that Koh Lipe is not only the best Thai restaurant in Toronto but also we are one and only Southern Thai Cuisine in North America.” Whether you visit the original Baldwin Street Downtown location or the Scarborough outpost, the focus remains on layered, spice-driven dishes that reward exploration.
