The story

Maha’s Toronto: Award-Winning Egyptian Brunch & Falafel in Leslieville

At Maha’s on Greenwood Avenue, brunch is a daily ritual rooted in centuries-old tradition. Head Chef Maha Barsoom, alongside Chef Monika Wahba and Barista Mark Wahba, opened this family-run spot in the heart of Leslieville in 2014. Their philosophy is simple: “Fresh is the heart of everything we cook.”

The menu is a love letter to Egyptian cuisine, filled with sweet spices and bold, layered flavours. Signature dishes like the Cairo Classic—featuring Egyptian falafel—have won over locals and visitors alike. One Toronto publication called it “a contender for the city’s best,” while the Michelin guide recommends diners to “dine like a pharaoh.” The Pharaoh’s po boy, a fan favourite, earns praise for making you “salivate hours after eating it.”

The atmosphere is intentionally homey, designed to bring the warmth of Egypt to Canada. Everything, from the red lentil soup to the exotic coffee menu—think honey cardamom lattes and imported Egyptian tea with mint or cream—is made from scratch. Full menu takeout is available, and the restaurant is walk-in only, adding to its casual, bustling energy.

Recognised by Michelin for its authentic Egyptian brunch, Maha’s has gained an almost cult status in Toronto. It’s a place where five-thousand-year-old food is made fresh, every day.
