The story
Since 1995, Pho Tien Thanh has been a fixture on Toronto’s Ossington Avenue, serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine rooted in family tradition. Owner Tuấn Võ, who arrived in Canada from Cần Thơ in southern Vietnam, founded the restaurant with his family after working in local kitchens. Today, most of the staff are still family members, and the recipes are passed down through generations.
The menu at Pho Tien Thanh is a reflection of Vietnam’s diverse regional cuisines. Southern Vietnamese cooking tends to be sweeter, while the central region favours spice and the north emphasizes salty flavours. Tuấn and his wife and co-owner Lan Lê employ people from across Vietnam to maintain this variety, offering a menu that includes traditional pho, BBQ with vermicelli, stir-fried noodles, and Vietnamese coffee. Each dish is made with fresh ingredients, authentic herbs, and spices, with a focus on a rich, flavourful broth and tender meats.
The restaurant’s signature pink walls and motto, “I Love Pho Forever,” set a welcoming, unpretentious tone. This commitment to quality and authenticity has earned recognition, including a place in the Toronto MICHELIN Guide of recommended restaurants. It was also a noted pho favourite of chef Susur Lee.
Step into Pho Tien Thanh, and you step into a home where every meal is a celebration of Vietnamese culture and heritage.
