The story
In the heart of Kitsilano on bustling West 4th Avenue, Maenam has been a cornerstone of Vancouver’s Thai dining scene since 2009. This restaurant, the flagship of chef-restaurateur Angus An’s Full House Hospitality group, earned a spot in the Michelin Vancouver Guide’s recommended list in 2026—a fitting recognition for a kitchen that balances intense Thai flavours with the best of the West Coast larder.
Angus An brings a rare combination of fine-arts and French culinary training to his approach to Thai cuisine. Named Vancouver Magazine’s Chef of the Year in 2025, he has cooked at the James Beard House and authored the cookbook Maenam: A Fresh Approach to Thai Cooking. Alongside Chef de Cuisine Jeremy Tan—a Vancouver native who rose through the ranks—An’s team sources seasonal produce from farms like Glorious Organics CO-OP and Brew Creek Farm, and works with trusted local purveyors for meats and seafood.
Maenam’s à la carte and tasting menus evolve with the seasons. Dinner might begin with a Sidestripe Miang Kham (BC prawn with peanut, coconut, and betel leaf) or a Laab Cupcake of Hokkaido scallop. The multi-course Chef’s Tasting Menu (family-style, $88 per person) features dishes such as Massaman Curry of braised beef, a Northern-style crispy duck laab, and a white gati curry of prawn and smoked BC sablefish. For larger groups or special occasions, the Whole Crab (black pepper or truffle scallion) and Lobster Claypot require 48 hours’ notice.
Lunch offers its own family-style set at $45 per person, with starters like grilled Thai sausage with crispy rice salad and mains such as halibut green curry or khua kling beef stir-fry. Throughout, the kitchen prioritizes intense, fresh flavours—lemongrass, galangal, makrut lime, bird’s eye chili—over gimmickry.
The Kitsilano dining room is comfortable and unhurried, with outdoor seating on 4th Avenue and a vibe that works equally well for a quick lunch or a leisurely Saturday tasting-menu evening. (Saturday reservations are exclusively for the Chef’s Tasting Menu; à la carte is walk-in only that day.)
Maenam’s Thai cuisine, grounded in local ingredients and Michelin-recognized execution, has made it a Vancouver institution that continues to evolve without losing its sense of place.
