The story
In the heart of Yaletown, Vancouver, Moltaqa brings a distinctly Moroccan warmth to the dining table. The restaurant is a Michelin Recommended address, recognized for its commitment to authentic, slow-braised cooking that is halal-certified and made to be shared. The space itself has a particular warmth, with a smart casual dress code that sets the tone for a relaxed yet polished evening.
The kitchen focuses on bold, aromatic flavours. The Lamb Shank Tagine is a signature: fall-apart tender lamb braised with preserved lemon, saffron, and spices, served with warm semolina bread baked fresh each morning. The Harissa Spicy Chicken Kebab features free-range halal chicken marinated in house harissa, grilled over an open flame, and plated with spiced rice, salad, and potatoes. For a lighter option, the Seven-Vegetable Couscous is a vegan standout — fluffy steamed couscous crowned with seasonal vegetables and chickpeas in a fragrant broth. The full vegan menu is clearly labelled throughout.
To drink, the Moroccan Sour has become a house classic: Forester Bourbon steeped in Moroccan spices, fresh lemon, egg white, and Agadir white cherries.
Moltaqa is as much about atmosphere as it is about food. Friday evenings feature live Arabic music with traditional Moroccan instruments. Saturday nights bring an authentic belly dance show at 9:30 PM, performed by Adalat. Tables for the show go quickly, so booking ahead is recommended. For a more curated experience, a four-course tasting menu is available any day — lunch at $25 per guest and dinner at $44 per guest.
The restaurant also offers a brunch service with a signature Lamborghini Coffee, and hosts private events for up to 100 guests with custom menus. Whether you come for a slow afternoon, a Friday night of live music, or a Saturday show, Moltaqa delivers a genuinely Moroccan evening in Vancouver.
