The Story Behind Ophelía

Named after the chef’s mother, Ophelía brings authentic Mexican cuisine to Vancouver’s Olympic Village with a refined, elevated approach. Chef Francisco Higareda, a Veracruz-born chef who has worked in Michelin-starred kitchens, returns to his roots to create a menu that honours traditional flavours while pushing them forward. The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a fitting recognition for its commitment to quality and authenticity.

What to Expect

The atmosphere is warm and sophisticated, with a fully licensed bar that pours handcrafted cocktails using premium tequilas and mezcals, alongside local and imported beers, and a thoughtfully selected wine list. The kitchen focuses on dishes that are both familiar and surprising. Starters include Aguachile Blanco (cured prawns and scallops in a coconut habanero broth) and Tuna Tostada with chipotle aioli. For mains, the Pollo en Mole de la Casa (roasted half chicken with house mole) and Pulpo en Mole Blanco (corn-crusted octopus with white mole) showcase the chef’s skill with complex sauces. Tacos are a highlight, with options like Tacos de Arrachera y Bone Marrow and Vegan Tacos with guajillo-marinated portobello. Weekend brunch is served from noon to 3pm, featuring many of the same appetizers and tacos.
