The story

Lucheng, Xiamen – Michelin-Recommended Fujian Cuisine with Sea Views

A Name Rooted in Place

Perched on the 39th floor of the Conrad Xiamen, Lucheng takes its name from Xiamen’s poetic nickname, “Egret Island.” The Chinese name, 鹭城轩, carries a double meaning – evoking both the journey here and the city itself. Every detail, from the餐具 to the staff uniforms, is painted with the image of the white egret, capturing the sense of “dawn light spreading over Egret Island, bringing dreams and treasures on the breeze.” It is a restaurant that wears its sense of place on its sleeve.

Design and Views

The space is conceived around this theme. Eight private dining rooms, each named after one of Xiamen’s eight famous scenic spots, line the floor-to-ceiling windows. From these rooms, guests look out over Gulangyu Island and the city’s coastline – a skyline that shifts with the day’s light. The connection to the landscape is not decorative; it is the foundation of the cooking.

A Cuisine of Land and Sea

The chef team at Lucheng works with an innovative approach to Fujian cuisine. Their inspiration comes from the mountains and the sea that define the region. They travel across Fujian, gathering ingredients and reinterpreting them with a fresh perspective. The goal is to bring the bounty of the eight Fujian prefectures to the table – a refined, contemporary expression of the province’s culinary heritage. This is not a kitchen that recycles tradition; it is one that finds new ways to present the flavors of the coast and the hinterland.

Michelin Recognition

Lucheng has been named a Michelin Recommended restaurant for the 2025 and 2026 editions of the Michelin Guide Fujian. This recognition underscores the kitchen’s commitment to elevating Fujian cuisine through meticulous technique and a deep respect for the source. Sitting high above the city, with the sea stretching to the horizon, Lucheng offers a dining experience that is both grounded in local tradition and lifted by modern ambition.
