The story
Minnan Minnan, located on the third floor of The Mixc in Siming, is the Xiamen outpost of a restaurant group with deep roots in southern Fujian. The group’s story began in 1989, when a small seafood restaurant with just six tables opened in Shishi. That restaurant, known locally as Lüdao, earned the saying “wear in Shishi, eat at Lüdao” — a testament to its reputation among locals and overseas Chinese alike.
In 2014, the team behind Minnan Minnan gained national attention when the documentary A Bite of China 2 featured founder Wang Shanxu cooking his signature white radish rice. That dish, now a hallmark of the brand, exemplifies the kitchen’s commitment to carefully sourced ingredients and time-tested technique.
At Minnan Minnan, the cooking stays true to the principles of Minnan cuisine — straightforward, ingredient-driven, and deeply tied to the coastal and agricultural traditions of the region. The restaurant’s motto, “Minnan Minnan is the hospitality of southern Fujian,” speaks to the warmth and generosity that defines the dining experience.
In 2026, the restaurant received a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition reserved for good quality, good value cooking. It joins a small number of Xiamen restaurants honored for delivering honest, satisfying meals without the price tag of a starred establishment.
The dining room is comfortable and modern, with air conditioning and parking available — practical details that make it a reliable choice for both locals and visitors looking for authentic Minnan fare in the city center.
