The story
Since 1953, Mediterraneo has been a fixture on the island of Hvar, welcoming guests to its Dalmatian piazza for a complete culinary experience. This is a place where history and top-notch service combine, earning it a Michelin recommendation for its authentic approach to Croatian cuisine.
The setting is a picturesque ambient, designed for cozy dinners and warm evenings outdoors. The restaurant’s own words capture the spirit: "Come and feel mediterranean as it once was." With outdoor seating available, the atmosphere invites you to linger over a meal in the heart of Hvar.
The kitchen, led by head chef Antonio, focuses on Mediterranean specialties with a strong emphasis on the freshest local ingredients. The menu showcases the bounty of the Adriatic, from shrimp and Adriatic crab bisque to fresh monkfish cheeks in a tomato sauce with parmesan polenta.
Standout dishes include the hand-rolled macaroni pasta with black truffle pesto and prosciutto, and the Adriatic scampi served over black homemade linguine with just olive oil, parsley, and garlic. For meat lovers, the Argentinian ribeye is wet-aged in house for 60 days and grilled over charcoal, while the lamb shank is slow-cooked sous vide for ten hours until tender.
The wine list is a thoughtful selection, featuring Croatian labels like Pošip Intrada Krajančić and Zlatan Plavac Exclusive, alongside international classics, all paired with the expertise of the restaurant’s sommelier, Mario.
The Michelin recommendation acknowledges Mediterraneo’s consistent quality and its role in preserving the authentic flavours of the Dalmatian coast. It’s a recognition earned through decades of dedication to Croatian cuisine and genuine hospitality.
