The story
For more than two decades, BoccaVera has anchored the Mali Lošinj waterfront with a straightforward focus on Mediterranean cuisine. Located near the historic Apoxyomenos Museum, the kitchen favors high heat and simple techniques, grilling whole fish, octopus, and lobster alongside slow-baked brodetto and buzara preparations. This consistent approach recently caught the attention of Gault&Millau, which recognized the steady quality behind every plate. Every table begins with freshly baked bread and the restaurant’s own bottled olive oil, setting a quiet standard before service starts.
The menu balances classic seafood preparations with richer Italian-inspired plates like shrimp stuffed ravioli and a generous black risotto. Guests often share the sea trio, which layers sea bass fillet over sweet potato cream, gratinated scampi, and grilled scallops. Meat orders highlight well-roasted Cres lamb or simply grilled chops accompanied by roasted seasonal vegetables. These dishes pair naturally with a rotating selection of Croatian wines, craft beers, and house cocktails. The kitchen maintains this dedication to Mediterranean cuisine by sticking to locally sourced seafood and traditional preparation methods.
The dining space unfolds across three cascading terraces that catch the afternoon sun and evening breezes. An upper level frames unobstructed views of anchored fishing boats and the daily sunset. Inside, clean lines and a modern layout keep the focus on the harbor beyond. Staff move quickly between the tables, ensuring the relaxed pace never drags into waiting.
