The story
Located in Mokošica, Konoba Tauris specializes in Dalmatian seafood prepared with straightforward Mediterranean techniques. Guided by a Gault&Millau rating of thirteen points, Chef Baldo Ivanković runs a kitchen that prioritizes ingredient quality over complex methods. His brother Miro manages the dining room and personally presents the morning catch to guests before any preparation begins. This direct approach keeps the menu tightly aligned with what the Adriatic delivers that day.
Starters often feature an octopus salad dressed only with olive oil, fresh parsley, and lemon juice alongside house-prepared fish pâté. Main courses revolve around the daily catch, which typically arrives on the plate grilled with nothing more than sea salt and a drizzle of oil. It is accompanied by boiled Swiss chard and potatoes to balance the richness. Cuttlefish transforms into a dark risotto while scampi and lobster appear either grilled or simmered in a traditional buzara sauce.
The dining room sits just steps from the small harbor where fishing boats dock along the Šipan coastline. Natural light fills the space during the day, creating a relaxed environment suited for both locals and travelers arriving by ferry. The wine list highlights regional producers with many bottles available by the glass. This straightforward pairing strategy complements the clean flavors of coastal cooking without drawing attention away from the meal itself.
