The story

Zlatni Lug Restaurant in Požega: Award-Winning Slavonian Cuisine & Wine Cellar

Origins and Recognition

Zlatni Lug in Požega offers a grounded approach to Slavonian cuisine, rooted in the landscape of the Golden Valley. Owner Thomas Heinz Pandžić launched the complex in 2008 to showcase the region's produce, earning a Gault&Millau score that reflects this dedication to local ingredients and hospitality. The estate combines dining, accommodation, and nature activities into a single destination built around the values of authenticity and rest.

Traditional Dishes and Ingredients

The menu highlights Slavonian cooking through preparations like čobanac and fish paprikash seasoned with regional spices. The kitchen features the Vinedresser ćevap, a mix of meats cooked with homemade sausages and bacon in a sauce enriched with peppers and wine. Black Slavonian pork appears frequently on the plate, accompanied by sides such as homemade bread or potatoes.

Interiors and Local Wines

Dining occurs within a room styled after old Slavonian houses and taverns, constructed largely from wood and brick. The wine cellar shares this material palette and stocks bottles from producers including Galić, Perak, Enjingi, Adžić, and Kutjevo. These selections complement the Slavonian cuisine with robust options that match the richness of the meat dishes served daily.
