The story

Tač Zagreb: Bib Gourmand Croatian Home Cooking on the Zagreb Hillside

A family welcome on the Zagreb hillside

For more than twenty years, Vesna and Tihomir Miletić, together with their sons, have run Restoran Tač on the green slopes above Zagreb. Their philosophy is simple: treat every guest like family. The setting matches the warmth – a terrace filled with carefully chosen antique furniture, surrounded by gardens that supply much of the kitchen. It is a place where regulars return year after year, drawn by the genuine hospitality and the quiet escape from the city below. In 2026, Michelin recognised this consistency with a Bib Gourmand award, highlighting the restaurant’s good quality, good value cooking.

Seasonal cooking rooted in tradition

Tač does not follow a fixed menu. Instead, the kitchen works with the best of each season, drawing from Vesna’s own garden and trusted local producers. The result is a daily changing selection of dishes that feel both familiar and refined. Homemade pâté, roast suckling pig, and frittata with wild asparagus appear when ingredients are at their peak. The bread is baked in-house, and the desserts – notably the apple pie and the chestnut purée in autumn – are made from scratch. This is Croatian cuisine at its most honest: simple, flavourful, and deeply connected to the land.

Wine and atmosphere by Tač

Tihomir – known to everyone as Tač – brings the same care to the wine list. His talent for picking the right bottle to match a meal has become part of the restaurant’s identity. The terrace, renovated with style, offers a peaceful spot to enjoy a long lunch or dinner. Here, the food, the wine, and the setting come together naturally. Tač is not about trends or fuss; it is about making every meal feel like a celebration of Croatian home cooking, shared among friends.

The regular guests of the restaurant Tač restaurant come here for a family Sunday lunch and every time they want to treat themselves or their friends to a top-quality meal in a pleasant and warm atmosphere. Located far from the centre, on one of Zagreb’s hills, Tač has held for twenty years one of the highest places on the city’s gastronomic scene but unlike many restaurants that live on their old glory, Tač has gotten better over time. And this is solely thanks to the owners, the Miletić couple. The kitchen, successfully set up by chef Vesna Miletić, prepares traditional dishes. What makes them special is the first-class quality of the ingredients that arrive at the restaurant every day. Fresh fish, live scampi and even lobsters, which you can often see in the cold display case, arrive from loyal suppliers while the menu also includes top-quality pieces of aged meat in addition to the young lamb from the island of Pag, the Black Slavonian pig and the Istrian Boškarin. The cook with home-grown vegetables and they follow the seasonal offer, so in early spring they always have wild asparagus and in autumn porcini mushrooms, while the potatoes come from the region of Lika. Their steak tartare is one of the best in town. Finely chopped and perfectly seasoned, it is served with toasted bread, but we prefer their fine bread rolls and buns. We enjoyed the roasted suckling pig with soft meat and crispy crust, as well as the breaded chicken, which they serve with bizi-rizi (rice and green peas). A real comfort food with the flavours of our childhood. The masterfully grilled John Dory its juiciness, and the freshly cooked Swiss chard retained its beautiful green colour. As dessert take the apple strudel or the fantastic cremeschnitte (kind of millefeuille). The wines are selected by Tihomir Miletić, known as Tač, after whom the restaurant was named. Excellent Croatian and Slovenian wines perfectly accompany their original cuisine.
