The story
Gro Spiseri sits atop the ØsterGro urban farm in Copenhagen, serving organic Danish dining that changes with every harvest. The kitchen draws its ingredients directly from the rooftop soil and nearby coastal waters. ØsterGro began as the city’s first community rooftop farm in 2014, eventually evolving into this permanent eatery. A small team of eight cooks builds each plate around what local growers and low impact fishermen deliver, earning three radishes from the We're Smart Green Guide.
Guests gather around a single twenty five seat table inside a heated greenhouse to experience this seasonal Nordic cooking firsthand. The kitchen serves a fixed menu that rotates weekly based on regional availability. Current offerings feature cured fish with calendula escabeche, fermented potatoes made with kornby flour, and crab paired with fresh gooseberries. Hearty mains like smoked new potatoes with lovage foam sit alongside daily catches served with mussel and buttermilk sauce.
Natural wines and locally brewed Danish beers flow alongside house crafted juices and seasonal cocktails. The space feels intentionally informal, with glass walls framing views of chicken coops and bee hives below. Evening service shifts toward a quieter rhythm as guests share platters across the long board arrangement. Weekend mornings invite families to join for sourdough focaccia and seasonal breakfast spreads before the afternoon light warms the interior.
