The story
Since opening in 2016, Joyce has become a cornerstone of the Tartu dining scene, earning a Michelin Recommended distinction for its thoughtful approach to modern cuisine. The restaurant’s philosophy is rooted in two universal qualities: the joy of sharing quality time with good company, and an impressive choice of flavours that ensures every guest finds something to delight in.
The kitchen team works with a clear zero-waste mindset, prioritising fresh, local produce and using ingredients from nose to tail. This commitment to sustainability is underscored by a Green Key eco-label, reflecting a deep respect for both the environment and Estonian food culture. The result is a menu that surprises with inventive combinations while remaining grounded in quality.
Starters are designed for sharing, such as the hand-chopped beef tartar with spicy adzhika and egg gel, or the delicate duck confit gyozas with teriyaki and kimchi. From the charcoal grill, the kitchen sends out glazed beef ribs, smoked trout, and tender corn-fed chicken. Main courses include a butter-fried pike-perch with burnt bimi and dill butter sauce, and a glazed duck fillet with herbed couscous and basil cream. The wine list, served by the glass, features a well-chosen selection from Europe and beyond, including a house Champagne from Lanson.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a private children’s play area that makes it a genuine option for families. A dedicated Junior Joyce menu offers smaller portions of pasta, grilled pork, and trout. Whether dining à la carte or enjoying a Sunday brunch, Joyce delivers a refined yet relaxed experience in the heart of Tartu.
