The story
At Le Coucou Vert, the kitchen is the soul, the dining room the heart, and wine flows through its veins. This Helsinki bistro, located on Bulevardi, leans into French culinary tradition and culture, encouraging lingering dinners filled with laughter, warmth, and pleasure. The team behind it—Teemu Aura, Maiju Åstedt, Riku Stenros, and Janne Ahola—wanted to create a restaurant where it is easy to arrive and so comfortable that time slips away almost unnoticed.
The kitchen celebrates French bistronomy and its bold side paths. The seasonal menu, Menu du Moment, offers three courses, while the Menu du Chef and Menu du Gourmand expand the experience. Dishes change with the season, but might include a rainbow trout crudo with blood orange, braised whitefish with sauce meunière, or duck breast with cider sauce and pumpkin. The wine pairings are thoughtfully selected to match each course. For those who prefer a lighter touch, there are also dishes meant for sharing, such as marinated olives and sourdough bread with whipped butter.
The restaurant’s long bar counter invites solo diners and couples to eat even when the dining room is full. In summer, the outdoor terrace opens for al fresco dining, though no reservations are taken for the terrace. A private room is available for larger groups, who are asked to book by phone or email. Le Coucou Vert’s welcoming spirit and focus on French cuisine earned it a place in the Michelin Guide 2025, a recognition that feels natural for a restaurant that treats every guest like part of its ménage-à-trois.
