The story
Opened in 1952 to mark the Helsinki Olympic Games, Palace has always been at the forefront of Finnish gastronomy. It was the first Finnish restaurant to earn a Michelin star, in 1987, and today holds two Michelin stars for excellent cooking. The restaurant occupies the 10th floor of a historically significant building on Eteläranta, with views over the city and its seascape.
Chef Eero Vottonen leads the kitchen, aiming to create an innovative yet sophisticated Nordic dining experience. The team works with one evolving menu that changes with the seasons – currently serving menu vol. 33.3. A vegetarian menu can be arranged on request. Beverage pairings, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are available, including an upgraded wine pairing option.
The dining room and Palace Bar welcome guests from Wednesday to Saturday. The bar opens earlier in the evening. For private events, Palace offers several named rooms honoring figures from the restaurant’s history: architect Viljo Revell, long-time general manager Wilhelm Noschis, first head chef Aleksander Palermaa, Michelin-star-winning head chef Eero Mäkelä, and former owner Heikki Tavela. Spaces range from an intimate table for four to a ballroom that can accommodate 50, or combined with adjoining rooms for up to 140 guests.
The single tasting menu is priced at EUR 250, including water and coffee or tea. Wine pairing is EUR 220, upgraded to EUR 390, and a non-alcoholic pairing is EUR 100. The menu is described as modern cuisine, rooted in Nordic traditions and seasonal ingredients. Guests are asked to inform the restaurant of any dietary restrictions when booking.
Palace remains a benchmark for Finnish fine dining, blending its historic legacy with a contemporary vision.
