The story
In the heart of Porvoo, Finland’s only Michelin-starred city, VÅR is a restaurant where Nordic nature, local ingredients and culinary ambition meet. Awarded a Michelin star for its uncompromising craftsmanship and unique flavour world, VÅR is an intimate space that feels both timeless and distinctly of its place.
For the team behind VÅR, food is a story – one that unfolds from the seasons, the surrounding landscape and Porvoo’s traditions. Every dish is a carefully built experience, combining technical skill, visual restraint and a deep connection to the environment. The restaurant describes its cooking as “modern Nordic cuisine with a Porvoo soul,” where ingredients speak for themselves. Wild fish, vegetables, the best Finnish grains and dairy products form the backbone of a menu that changes with each season.
VÅR offers a single tasting menu, currently priced at 149 €, that acts as both an exploration and a stage for the season’s finest produce. The kitchen works closely with small local producers, fishermen and foragers, creating a direct line from forest, field and archipelago to plate. Drink pairings are designed with equal care: classic wines sit alongside interesting natural wines and beers, plus a non-alcoholic option and a mixed package that combines both. The result is a meal that feels cohesive, thoughtful and deeply personal.
VÅR is not the work of a single chef but of a collective – a network of local farmers, hunters, fishermen and artisans who share the restaurant’s values. The team sees itself as part of a larger ecosystem, supporting each other toward more delicious and sustainable food. This sense of collaboration extends to the guest experience: the restaurant has partnered with RUNO Hotel Porvoo, Finland’s first Michelin Key hotel, to offer a seamless mini-break, and can also be booked privately for groups of 8 to 32. Every detail, from the lounge to the table, is designed for calm and focus – a moment to pause and share something exceptional.
