The story
Since 1963, the Risch family has run Auberge de la Forêt, a restaurant set in a pine forest near Abreschviller in Moselle. Today, siblings Alexandra and Hugo carry the tradition forward—Alexandra manages the front of house, while Hugo is in the kitchen. Hugo trained with top chefs in Burgundy and the region, and together they have refreshed the dining rooms and added a covered terrace with a subtle Japanese pagoda inspiration.
The restaurant’s setting is calm and enveloped by nature. Guests can walk around a pond and through a landscaped park before or after their meal. The three dining rooms and terrace offer different ambiances, all warm and welcoming.
Hugo’s cooking is described as delicate and refined, changing with the seasons. The menu highlights local products: game from the surrounding forests, foie gras, and trout from nearby rivers. This is Modern Cuisine that respects tradition but feels contemporary. The restaurant’s commitment to quality earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction, a recognition that underscores the precision and care in every dish.
Auberge de la Forêt is currently undergoing a major transformation. The family is creating Domaine de l’Éclaircie, a new complex with a four-star hotel, spa, bar, and event spaces, set to open in August 2026. Reservations are already open. Until then, the restaurant continues to serve its seasonal menus, offering a taste of what’s to come in a setting that remains quietly beautiful.
Whether for a lunch in the forest, a special dinner on a Friday or Saturday evening, or a private celebration, Auberge de la Forêt delivers a genuinely personal experience. The Risch siblings have kept the soul of the original house while gently modernizing it—a balance that makes this place unique.
