The story
Bienvenue chez Dorangeville. In the tiny village of Ainay-le-Château, this restaurant run by Chef Quentin Dorangeville brings modern cuisine to the heart of the Bourbonnais countryside. It has earned a place in the Michelin guide, recognised as "Recommended" for its considered cooking and warm hospitality.
The restaurant offers a range of menus that change with the seasons. The “Menu retour du marché” lets the market dictate the meal, while the five- and six-service menus provide a more complete tasting experience. Starters might include a confit hen’s egg with peas, morels, and Mangalica ham, or a house-made pâté en croûte of veal, poultry, and duck foie gras with seasonal chutney. Main courses feature dishes such as dodine of rabbit confit with aromatics and spring vegetables in an estragon jus, or a nacreous cod fillet with green curry peas and vanilla-barigoule artichokes. A chariot of artisan cheeses from the region, with honey from the nearby Tronçais forest, appears before dessert. Desserts range from a lemon cream with madeleine biscuit and fennel-sorbet with elderflower, to a dark chocolate creation with peated whisky, salted caramel, and puffed rice. Wine pairings are available for each menu.
Beyond the dining room, Dorangeville also offers a catering service for private events. The setting is simple and welcoming, with tables inside and, when weather allows, outdoor seating. The restaurant is closed from 6 September to 23 September each year.
Whether you stop for lunch (Thursday to Monday) or dinner (Friday and Saturday), the focus is on produce-driven modern cuisine, carefully prepared and presented without fuss. It is a restaurant that knows what it is and does it well.
