The story
In the small Drôme village of Allex, L'Auberge d'Allex brings a personal, inventive approach to modern cuisine. The team describes their cooking as “creative, based on fresh, seasonal and mostly local products, selected by artisans who make their know-how a richness.” That philosophy runs through every dish, from a starter of fresh goat cheese coated in seeds with braised sucrine, beetroot, rocket, and pink radish, to a main of chicken thigh with chorizo, peas, homemade tomato coulis, and potato cake.
The restaurant describes itself as a “bistronomique” – a place where the spirit of a bistro meets the precision of gastronomy. The interior is cosy and warm, and the service is attentive but discreet. “A restaurant must remain a place of encounter,” they say. “Encounter with a product, a wine, a flavour, a person.” That sense of genuine welcome is central to the experience.
The menu changes with the seasons. A tasting menu called “Au Fil des Saisons” offers a longer exploration of the kitchen’s style, while the “Ballade Gourmande” is a shorter lunch option available Wednesday to Saturday. Recent dishes have included a revisited mimosa egg with creamy seaweed mayonnaise and fava beans, a bourride of white fish with spring vegetables, and a Norwegian omelette with red fruit and matcha. The kitchen also offers a duo of amuse-bouches – cromesquis of foie gras with apricot confit, and a pea and goat cheese cappuccino.
L'Auberge d'Allex is a member of the Collège Culinaire de France and holds the Maître Restaurateur label. It has been selected for the Michelin Guide 2026, recognition that aligns with the kitchen’s commitment to quality and local sourcing. For anyone seeking modern cuisine in the Drôme, this is a restaurant that delivers on its promise of simplicity, warmth, and flavour.
