The story

Bloomer Annecy: A Le Fooding-Listed Bistro Blending Street Food and Local Sourcing

The kitchen and its philosophy

Bloomer brings a straightforward bistro approach to Annecy, guided by chef Paul Belison and partners James Bloomer and Pierre Marcolin. The team operates on a simple “drink, eat, drink” principle that shapes every decision behind the pass. Their cooking style embraces frank flavors and unpretentious techniques, deliberately blending classic French bistro traditions with casual street food influences. This grounded philosophy earned the spot a place on the 2026 Le Fooding list.

Seasonal plates and shared formats

Daily menus rotate around what local suppliers bring to the door, ensuring produce stays fresh. You might encounter a zucchini terrine layered with curried sabayon and edible flowers, followed by line-caught tuna finished with a deep beetroot reduction. Heavier plates feature lacquered pork belly served with tzatziki and herb fritters, while vegetarian diners can opt for house-made farfalle tossed in estragon butter with feta. Desserts lean into texture, pairing rich dark chocolate ganache with sugar-dusted raspberries or serving a nectarine tart alongside hay ice cream.

The room and beverage program

The dining space balances energy with comfort through a long central bar, plush leather banquettes, and a semi-open kitchen that keeps guests connected to the prep area. An intimate back room offers a quieter alternative for those seeking a slower pace. The relaxed bistro pacing encourages shared plates and steady conversation among friends. Beverage selections match the food’s earthy tone, featuring low-intervention wines, draft craft beers, and custom cocktails designed to complement the day’s ingredients.

If the neighborhoods around train stations are often fairly depressing, Bloomer is here to change that! The spot in question? It’s run by partners James Bloomer (an Englishman who’s worked in a lot of London pubs) and Pierre Marcolin (who left his previous job in aeronautics), along with chef Paul Belison (who used to work at Alexia Duchêne’s Datsha in Paris and Anthony Orjollet’s Elements in Bidart). Their credo? “Drink, eat, drink!” In their bright café/restaurant that’s open from morning till night (a long bar, a leather banquette, a semi-open kitchen and a more intimate back dining room), Annecy’s finest jostle for a table. The day we went for lunch, we savored all of the following: a colorful millefeuille-style zucchini terrine with curried sabayon and a sprinkling of locally grown edible flowers – or incredibly tender line-caught tuna with a blood-red beetroot reduction; followed by a smash burger with cheese and chunky fries; or an open eggplant and zucchini ravioli drizzled in peppercorn sauce; and to round it all out, a bitter dark chocolate ganache with sugar-drenched raspberries, served with two spoons. // Sofia Sétif
