Café Brunet

Housed in a 14th-century village house, Café Brunet serves "canaille" cuisine with an exceptional wine list in Annecy-le-Vieux.

The story

Café Brunet Annecy: Michelin-Recommended French Bistrot with Canaille Cuisine

Café Brunet occupies a 14th-century country house in the Annecy-le-Vieux district, a setting that has housed a restaurant since 1875. Today, Delphine & Mathieu run the place with a clear vision: revive the atmosphere of a village bistrot where the cooking is proudly "canaille"—rustic, hearty, and unpretentious.

The Experience

The vibe is genuine, not theatrical. A shaded terrace under century-old chestnut trees extends the dining room into the fresh lakeside air. Inside, the stone walls and low ceilings of the old house keep things intimate. This is precisely the kind of spot that earned the restaurant its Michelin Recommended status—a place that respects tradition without getting stuck in it.

The Food

The menu changes with the seasons and the market, but the spirit stays the same: direct, flavorful, and often playful. The "Menu Canaille" is a modular three-part affair, offering a choice of starters, mains, and desserts at a fixed price of 45€ for the full experience, or lighter combos for lunch.

Standout starters include the signature Café Brunet pâté en croûte, a house specialty, and a fricassée of snails with cauliflower and garlic. For mains, the options range from roasted sandre pike-perch with génépi bisque to a traditional grilled andouillette from artisan Théo Cadoux. There is also a daily-changing "semainier" that brings back classics: blanquette de veau on Tuesdays, roast chicken with fries on Wednesdays, and quenelles de brochet (pike dumplings) with Nantua sauce on Fridays. The lunch menu is a fixed 25€ formula.

The Wine List

Wine is a major draw here. Beyond a curated selection of proprietor-direct wines served by the glass, Café Brunet boasts a vertical of Mondeuse, a Savoyard red, from 1983 to the present day—a rare opportunity for enthusiasts.

Accessibility

The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and offers outdoor seating. Reservations are by phone only.
