The story
On the road that traces the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, in the village of Menthon-Saint-Bernard, Le Confidentiel is exactly what its name promises: a small, personal dining room where Fanchon and Sébastien work side by side. She in the kitchen, he in the dining room, the couple shares a deep passion for wine and food.
The menu changes with the seasons, written around what is fresh and local. The cooking is described as both traditional and creative, with a clear, precise seasoning that chef Laurent Petit of the three-starred Clos des Sens calls "a readable cuisine." A meal here might begin with a starter like raw and cooked green vegetables, or white asparagus with gravlax trout and a confit egg yolk. Mains could be wild hake with aromatic risotto, or a spiced pulled pork with black beans. Desserts keep the same clarity: a "tout chocolat" plate, a rosemary parfait with spiced strawberries, or a shortbread with citrus and jasmine.
The restaurant is tiny by design—no tables larger than six people—so that every guest feels the intimacy and comfort of the space. This is a place for a quiet, well-crafted meal, not a noisy night out. The Michelin Bib Gourmand award recognizes exactly this: good quality, good value cooking in a welcoming setting.
Le Confidentiel is modern cuisine in the best sense: rooted in the products of the region, executed with skill, and served without pretension. It is open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, by telephone reservation only.
