The story
On the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, in the village of Talloires, Les Terrasses is the gourmet restaurant of Le Cottage Bise. This family-run hotel, now entering its 95th summer season, has been welcoming guests since the 1930s. The restaurant holds a Michelin Recommendation—a quiet acknowledgment of its precise, product-focused cooking and serene lakeside setting.
The kitchen works with a concise, evolving carte built around fresh, local ingredients. The team prefers to adjust dishes week by week rather than lock in a static menu, staying close to what is truly available. Partnerships with local producers anchor this approach: Maison Baud in Villaz for meat, the Ferme des Castors in Doussard for seasonal farm products, and Ludovic Archer for wine. The result is Modern Cuisine that is clear and direct—precise cooking, balanced seasoning, uncluttered plating. Every plate follows the rhythm of Haute-Savoie’s seasons.
Les Terrasses is designed as a pause within a day on the lake. Guests arrive after a walk, a boat trip, or a swim at a nearby beach, and the pace changes. The service is attentive without rigidity, the terrace open to the water and the surrounding mountains. Meals become a central, unhurried moment. Whether from Annecy, Menthon-Saint-Bernard, or Veyrier-du-Lac, diners find a table where the rhythm shifts—a place to truly take time.
Le Cottage Bise itself has been a family affair for nearly a century. Chef Georges Bise made it a destination in the 1930s, hosting international figures from the League of Nations and beyond. His son Fernand and grandson Jean-Claude continued the tradition, modernising the estate while preserving its warm, familial spirit. Today, Jean-Claude and his wife Christine, together with their son Nicolas, run the hotel and its restaurant. The Michelin recommendation reflects this continuity: a table that is both a destination and a home, where a tradition of hospitality meets a confident, contemporary vision of Modern Cuisine.
Les Terrasses offers a direct, elegant interpretation of Modern Cuisine in a setting that feels both timeless and immediate. It is a place to return to, year after year, on the edge of Lake Annecy.
