The story

La Petite Grange: Modern Cuisine in Tournemire, near Aurillac | Bib Gourmand

The Setting

La Petite Grange occupies a carefully restored stone building in Tournemire, classified among the Plus Beaux Villages de France. From the modern, intimate dining room, guests look out over the Doire valley and the towers of Château d’Anjony. The atmosphere is warm and understated – a place for unhurried meals that let the landscape and the food share the spotlight.

The Chefs and Their Cuisine

Chef Olivier Cloteau, alongside Xavier Taffart (whose restaurant L’Aquarelle holds a Michelin star), leads the kitchen. Cloteau’s background in the Charente region gives his cooking a subtle maritime accent, which he weaves into dishes built on local produce from Cantal suppliers. The style is inventive modern cuisine that respects tradition without being bound by it – seasonal vegetables, farm cheeses, and meats appear alongside the occasional iodine note of seafood.

The menu changes with the seasons, and the kitchen works with precision and rigour. A dish might pair Cantal’s smoked cheese with a light beignet, or bring trout and pumpkin together in delicate ravioli. The result is cooking that feels both rooted and refreshingly personal.

Recognition and Experience

La Petite Grange has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for good-quality, good-value cooking – an award the restaurant has held since 2023 and continues to hold in 2026. Gault&Millau has also recognised the team. The dining room is open for lunch and dinner six days a week, and a seasonal terrace offers the same view for warmer-weather meals.

For visitors exploring the Cantal region – Aurillac, Salers, and the Puy Mary are nearby – La Petite Grange provides a genuine, well-crafted pause.
