The story

Bèou Bistrot Avignon: A Le Fooding Listed Bistro in Provence

The chef and the kitchen

Marie Petit-Doux brings a little cheer to bistro cooking at Bèou Bistrot in Avignon, where a Le Fooding listing recognizes her approach. She operates out of her grandfather's old home, drawing on experience from Café du Rhône in Lyon and Barbiche in Paris. Her kitchen team functions as a synchronized trio comprising Raphaël Combe, Théo Caron, and Faraz Mirzai. Each cook brings background from notable kitchens like Domaine de la Petite Isle, Coretta, and Divigne. Together they craft plates that feel both refined and grounded.

Plates and flavors

The dishes showcase a mix of vegetable precision and hearty textures. Zucchini beignets are served with yogurt and smoked paprika dipping sauce. Savory plates might feature a stack of tender sage-infused potatoes, silky coco de Paimpol beans, and veal belly finished with kale oil. The dessert course offers a giant chocolate-hazelnut cake accompanied by roasted figs. When lunch gives way to dinner, the focus turns to inevitable shared plates such as Ardèche trout gravlax, Tarn ham cured for twelve months, and sardines sourced from La Conserverie Le Fleuré.

Space and setting

A formidable terrace provides seating under the shade of magnolia and bay trees, catching the afternoon light. Inside, the restaurant divides into two dining rooms with contrasting atmospheres. The smaller room features a fireplace for cooler moments. The other space is decked out with lush murals that create the impression of a second garden. The design honors the building's history while offering a bright, welcoming environment for diners.

You’ll want to watch the dishes dance under the eternal sunshine of Provence all day long at this Bèou tiful bistro run by Marie Petit-Doux (ex-Café du Rhône in Lyon and Barbiche in Paris), who has brought a little cheer to her grandfather’s old home, flanked by a formidable terrace under the shade of the magnolia and bay trees. Inside, you’ll find two dining rooms and two different atmospheres: the small one has a fireplace; the other is decked out with lush murals, making it feel like a second garden. And on the plates, prepared by a synchronized trio – Raphaël Combe (ex-Domaine de la Petite Isle),Théo Caron (ex-Coretta in Paris) and Faraz Mirzai (ex- Divigne ) –, were all of the following: stunning zucchini beignets with a yogurt and smoked paprika dipping sauce; a perilous stack of tender sage-infused potatoes, perfectly cooked veal belly, silky coco de Paimpol beans and sprouts drizzled in kale oil; and a gigantic chocolate-hazelnut cake served with roasted figs that were unfortunately a little too soft. At night, the lunch menu gives way to some inevitable shared plates: Ardèche trout gravlax, Tarn ham cured for 12 months, sardines in oil from La Conserverie Le Fleuré… // Raoul Taburin
