The story

Boccafine, Nonza, Bastia – Michelin-Recommended Modern Cuisine in Corsica

Boccafine

In the tiny, stone-built village of Nonza, perched above the Cap Corse coastline, Boccafine has quietly become a destination for those seeking inventive cooking on the island. The restaurant describes its cuisine as inventive, and the monthly-changing menu bears that out with confidence and precision.

The setting is intimate—just 30 seats—and the restaurant's position at the heart of Nonza, a village the restaurant calls a must-see, makes it a natural stop for travellers exploring the rugged northern coast. The outdoor seating is a clear draw in fine weather, letting diners take in the character of the place while they eat.

The cooking itself is rooted in Corsican ingredients but looks outward for technique and composition. Starters might include a spider crab raviolo with apple, fennel, and a spirulina mayonnaise, or a poached egg with green asparagus, an olive-polenta cake, and a morel-and-sherry espuma. A crisp pork trotter starter comes with a minted pea cream and caper-citron condiment—bright, layered cooking that feels both grounded and ambitious.

Main courses continue the theme. A daily catch appears as a cannelloni of chard and brocciu, with a myrtle-berry shellfish emulsion. A free-range chicken supreme is paired with a burnt langoustine and a fregola risotto with local tomme cheese. Roast milk-fed lamb arrives with aubergine purée, caponata, and a robust rosemary jus. The wine list, almost entirely Corsican, runs from AOP Patrimonio whites to Figari reds, with a few Burgundian outliers for purists.

Desserts are equally considered: strawberry and tarragon in a white-chocolate ganache with pistachio glaze; a Valrhona chocolate number with Dulcey espuma and caramel crunch; or apple and verbena in a sesame crumble.

Boccafine's recognition by the Michelin guide as a Recommended restaurant is a fitting acknowledgement of the kitchen's seriousness. But the restaurant wears it lightly. The atmosphere is warm, the service direct, and the cooking—modern cuisine that never forgets where it is—speaks for itself.
