The story

La Rapière in Bayeux: Bib Gourmand French Bistro with Market-Fresh Cuisine

A family-run bistro in the heart of Bayeux

Since January 2013, Simon and Linda have been the heart of La Rapière. Simon, a native of Port-en-Bessin, first won Linda over with his pastry skills when they met professionally in 2001. Together, they cooked across Normandy, Alsace, Champagne, and spent over three years at the Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds, UK, before finally settling back in Normandy in 2009. Today, they run the restaurant with Romain, their new maître d'hôtel, alongside long-time team members Alexandra and Guillaume. Their shared philosophy is simple: natural, generous, and honest cooking that balances local products with ideas from elsewhere.

The restaurant is tucked away on a small side street off Bayeux's main pedestrian thoroughfare, just 200 metres from the tourist office and a short walk from the Halle aux Grains. The setting is warm and welcoming, a place where the team's enthusiasm for hospitality is evident from the moment you step inside.

Cooking that earned a Bib Gourmand

La Rapière holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, awarded for good quality, good value cooking. This recognition reflects the kitchen's commitment to home-made dishes that highlight the best of the region. The menu is built around seasonal produce, with a focus on simplicity and flavour. Every course is made in-house, from the mise en bouche to the main plates and desserts.

The evening menu offers two options: the Menu d'Artagnan at €42 and the Menu Athos, Porthos et Aramis at €55. The d'Artagnan menu also includes vegetarian options. For children up to ten years old, a 25% discount on the menu is available. The team emphasises that their cooking is not vegan, but they are happy to accommodate vegetarian requests.

A place for genuine hospitality

La Rapière is a restaurant that values connection. The team describes their approach as rooted in "natural, simplicity, gourmandise, generosity, sharing and kindness." The dining room is intimate, and the restaurant limits the number of guests welcomed every 30 minutes to ensure a relaxed, attentive experience. They welcome groups of up to seven people per evening, or larger parties of up to 36 with a minimum spend. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and offers outdoor seating in warmer months.

Whether you are exploring Bayeux's medieval streets or visiting the nearby tapestry, La Rapière offers a genuine taste of modern French bistro cooking, driven by a team that clearly loves what they do.
