The story
La Table du Square sits on boulevard du Maréchal-Foch in Beaune, a convivial spot where the line between guest and regular blurs. Under the plane trees on the terrace, or at the bar, you’ll find winemakers, locals, and curious travellers – all part of the “cheer and joy” the team describes. The restaurant is the creation of Romain Escoffier, who transformed a former wine-bar institution into a home for epicureans. The first floor is available for private events.
The kitchen, led by Romain and his team, turns out what they call “instinctive cuisine, at once generous and colorful.” The menu changes every two or three days, following the seasons with ingredients from local producers and wild-harvested sources. A few representative dishes give the flavour: a potato salad with Morteau sausage and Cancouillotte sabayon, a courgette gazpacho with feta, or tacos de poulpe with avocado and Bresse cream. Mains include Breton blue lobster, pork ribs with grilled sucrine and dill mayonnaise, and a 45-day-aged côte de boeuf to share. Desserts, like the strawberry pavlova with lemon sorbet and basil, keep the same fresh, direct approach. Lunch is offered at 28 € for three courses; dinner at 32 €.
With 1,200 listed wines, the cellar is spectacular. Sommelier Anthony guides guests through the list, which spans well-known domains and lesser-known terroirs, all chosen because the team loves them and wants you to discover them. This depth, paired with the seasonal cooking, earned La Table du Square a Michelin Bib Gourmand – a recognition of good quality, good value cooking that suits the restaurant’s unpretentious, joyful spirit.
