The story

Le Soleil in Beaune: A Vineyard Kitchen of Graceful Small Plates

A Vineyard Setting for Modern Cooking

Le Soleil in Beaune serves refined French small plates within the Domaine Bize family vineyard, where owner Lola Taboury-Bize recently returned home. The property operates as a wine bar and dining room that stays open year round. Guests gather on a terrace framed by wild groves before stepping inside to tomette tile floors and a barrelwood bar. This setting supports a steady approach to culinary creations. The project earned a place on the 2026 Le Fooding list for its honest execution.

The Chef and Her Approach

Chef Laila Aouba arrived from Paris kitchens including Yard and Au Passage to run the stove. She builds compact dishes that pair familiar ingredients with careful technique. A farmer chicken pastilla arrives with tarragon, onions, and a sake deglaze, while crisp green beans take on tahini, Banyuls vinegar, and miso. The menu also highlights a pork schnitzel from Ferme des Grands Champs served with celery rémoulade. This modern kitchen favors bright acidity over heavy reductions.

The Room and Upstairs Stays

The dining room features subway tiled walls and warm wood accents that mirror the vineyard surroundings. Evening crowds fill the counter and shared tables for conversation over natural wines. Travelers seeking a longer visit can reserve three spacious bedrooms situated directly above the restaurant. These rooms require a two night minimum and open Thursday through Sunday. The arrangement suits this relaxed wine bar cuisine well.

After Le Baratin in Paris and La Dilletante in Beaune, the bubbly Lola Taboury-Bize has headed back home to her family’s vineyard and opened up a heady wine bar! Outside, there’s a cheerful terrace surrounded by wild groves; inside, a dining room with tomette tile floors, a bar made from the wood used to make wine barrels, and a kitchen done up with subway tiles, where chef Laila Aouba (ex-Yard and Au Passage in Paris) stitches together small, graceful plates. For us, the night we went: a tantalizing chicken pastilla with tarragon and onions deglazed in sake; a very fresh plate of crisp green beans draped in tahini, Banyuls vinegar and miso; pork schnitzel from the Ferme des Grands Champs, paired with celery rémoulade; small goat cheeses with thyme from a nearby farm; and to sweeten the deal, a financier with rhubarb compote and whiskey-infused whipped cream for dessert. Not ready to leave? There are three elegant B&B rooms available! // T.J.
