The story
Since 2007, Loiseau des Vignes has been a fixture on rue Maufoux, just steps from the Hospices de Beaune and the Hôtel Le Cep. The name—"Bird of the Vines"—hints at its purpose: a place to taste Burgundy, from glass to plate. The interior is warm and grounded, with oak paneling wrapped around a central wine library, solid wood tables, and a parquet floor laid in a Hungarian point pattern. Natural stone and violet-tinted lime walls alternate around the room. In fine weather, up to nine tables spill into a handsome interior courtyard.
This is a restaurant built around wine. Executive sommelier Eric Goettelmann, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France (2019), has curated a cellar of up to two thousand bottles of Burgundy. Four oak-clad wine libraries offer as many as 32 references by the glass. The selection is exclusive to the house and changes regularly. The idea is simple: choose a wine you love, then eat accordingly.
Loiseau des Vignes has created several partnerships that weave together the region's best experiences. An exclusive collaboration with Domaine Chanson offers a prestige tasting of six grand wines followed by a four-course lunch just five minutes away. Another package pairs the restaurant's three-course lunch menu with entry to the Hospices de Beaune. A third option includes a guided tour and tasting at the cellars of Patriarche—a 5-kilometer labyrinth of vaulted galleries dating back to the 13th century. There is also a partnership with the Cité des Climats & Vins de Bourgogne, including a discovery trail and a tasting workshop.
The restaurant holds a Michelin Recommendation, a mark of its consistent quality and the convivial, terroir-driven spirit that defines the Bernard Loiseau collection. In Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wine, Loiseau des Vignes is a place to drink well and eat simply—with depth.
