The story

Café Eriu Bordeaux: A Green-Toned Brunch Spot Near Public Gardens

The kitchen and the menu

Café Eriu in Bordeaux serves a distinctive brunch menu that blends Irish warmth with French brunch culture. Under the quiet protection of Ireland’s patron goddess, Grace Lohan runs the establishment just steps from the public gardens. Le Fooding has consistently praised her unpretentious approach to the daily blackboard list, which favors straightforward cooking over elaborate presentations.

Signature plates

A perfectly crisp cod taco arrives wrapped in an elastic corn tortilla, finished with a bright lemon yogurt sauce and a touch of chili. Mornings often feature a masterclass in brioche French toast, folded until moist and caramelized, then layered with whipped cream, raspberries, and maple syrup. Weekend brunch guests regularly request the full spread, which includes eggs Benedict, Turkish eggs, and thick slices of homemade pancake.

The green interior

The entire space leans into deep shades of green, from the painted facade to the tiled backsplash behind the service counter. A Marzocco espresso machine anchors the bar area, pouring steady streams of coffee throughout the morning rush. Visitors frequently grab a cup to go or settle in for an extended meal while watching the street activity outside.

Under the protection of Ériu, the patron goddess of Ireland, owner Grace Lohan pampers her guests a mere stone’s throw from Bordeaux’s public gardens. In her café all done up in shades of green (everything from the facade and the tile backsplash behind the bar to the Marzocco espresso machine), the dishes scribbled out on the blackboard menu get the job done right: the day we went, they included a perfect taco made on an elastic corn tortilla, filled with fried cod, a lemony yogurt sauce and chili to spice it all up; before a master class in brioche French toast that was moist and caramelized at the same time, topped with silky whipped cream, raspberries and maple syrup. It’s also worth noting that breakfast is served during the week (bacon and eggs, homemade granola, tartines topped with homemade peanut butter and bananas, etc.), plus brunch on the weekends – eggs Benedict or Turkish eggs, homemade pancakes, crispy bacon and maple syrup… // R.T.
