The story
La Tupina, whose name means "cauldron" in Basque, has been a cornerstone of Bordeaux's dining scene since 1968. Founded by Jean-Pierre Xiradakis, this rustic inn in the heart of the historic district offers a genuine taste of South-West France.
The soul of La Tupina is its open fireplace, where the famous cauldron hangs. Here, tricandilles sizzle, soups simmer, and poultry roasts, creating an atmosphere of warmth and conviviality. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a table overflowing with fresh produce, setting the stage for an authentic meal.
Since 2019, chef Franck Audu has been at the helm, continuing the restaurant's legacy of "cuisine originelle." He draws from the terroirs of Gascony and Guyenne, championing exceptional ingredients from the South-West. The restaurant has been recognized as the best bistro in the world and is recommended by the Michelin guide, a testament to its enduring quality.
The cuisine is a celebration of the region's bounty, served in a setting that feels like a countryside escape within the city. The combination of a crackling fire, honest cooking, and a carefully curated wine list makes La Tupina a destination for those seeking the true flavors of Bordeaux.
