The story

Lucca Bordeaux: A Freshly Curated Bistro on Place Rodesse

The founders and the kitchen

Lucca brings a quietly inventive approach to bistro cuisine in Bordeaux. Amélie Marty and Antoine Nguyen opened the spot on Place Rodesse after building careers in dance and architecture. They source produce from the neighboring Brutes épicerie and bake bread daily with Baston. This local supply chain keeps their menu grounded and seasonal.

Seasonal plates and sharp flavors

The bistro menu stays accessible while delivering precise flavor combinations. A cold starter features smoked herring taramasalata dressed with sumac and surrounded by diced potatoes, lumpfish roe, dulse seaweed, and sea beans. Warm vitello tonnato rests on cracked wheat alongside braised lettuce heart, capers, piment d’Espelette, and crushed pistachios. Black tahini cream paired with diced fig provides a clean finish to the meal.

Terrace dining and quiet recognition

Guests gather under parasols on a small tree-lined square that feels removed from the main streets. The outdoor seating captures the relaxed pace of Saint-Bruno-Saint-Victor while keeping service efficient. A recent listing in Le Fooding highlights how the young team pushes beyond standard neighborhood cafés without losing approachability. The combination of careful plating and open-air comfort makes the table feel both special and entirely unforced.

She’s a dancer, he’s an architect… Together, they’re bringing a little excitement to the Saint-Bruno-Saint-Victor neighborhood! Amélie Marty, 25 years old, and Antoine Nguyen, 29 years old, opened this adorable café with a terrace on a small tree-lined square, where you can savor fresh and inventive cuisine (made with fruits and vegetables from the neighboring Brutes épicerie and bread from Baston bakery) which refuses to be pigeonholed. The day we went for lunch, seated under a parasol, the impressive recession-busting menu cost just €19! It kicked off with a briny appetizer of smoked herring taramasalata topped with sumac and surrounded by tender diced potatoes, lumpfish roe, dulse seaweed and sea beans; followed by a beautifully plated vitello tonnato, served warm on a bed of cracked wheat, crisp braised lettuce heart, capers, piment d’Espelette and pistachios. Even dessert is a gourmet and punchy experience: diced fig, crumble topping and black tahini cream. // Kelly Slatée
