The story
Le Dauphin sits in the heart of Caen, at 29 rue Gémare, within a Logis Hôtel that has quietly earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for its restaurant. The dining room, with a fireplace at its centre, sets a warm, unhurried tone — the kind of place where you can settle in for an evening and feel properly looked after.
The kitchen works in a modern cuisine register, but the menu reads more like a thoughtful bistro. Dishes are built around local produce and change with the seasons. Starters include a sourdough toast with houmous, beetroot and feta cream, or a seared tuna sashimi with fresh herbs and a touch of chili. Mains range from handmade ravioli in a basil pesto sauce to a grilled tofu skewer with roasted seasonal vegetables, a daily fish with asparagus and sweet potato cream, or a peanut-crusted steak. Desserts — a classic cheesecake, lemon meringue tart, carrot cake, or a rich chocolate mousse — are made in-house by their pastry chef.
Beyond the restaurant, the Galerie du Prieuré lounge bar is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. With contemporary furniture and a crackling fire in winter, it serves house cocktails, a carefully selected range of local Calvados, and Alain Millat fruit juices. The bar also offers a quality bistro menu, entirely cooked on site.
Le Dauphin’s Michelin Recommended status reflects a kitchen that balances ambition with approachability, and a setting that feels both historic and relaxed. It is modern cuisine without pretence, rooted in Normandy’s ingredients and hospitality.
