The story

Roze, Caen – Bib Gourmand Modern Seasonal Cuisine in Mathieu

Between Fields and Tides

In the village of Mathieu, just outside Caen, the plains of Normandy meet the sea. It is here that chefs Clémence Goupil and Alex Néel have chosen to settle. Their restaurant, Roze, is an expression of their roots: a place where they cook and share the riches of their native region with enthusiasm and warmth. The atmosphere is that of a home open to guests – convivial, unpretentious, and genuinely welcoming.

A Seasonal Sensibility

Clémence and Alex describe their cooking as “inspired and vibrant,” driven by a desire to translate the emotion of each season onto the plate. Their menu of the moment celebrates the freshness and variety of seasonal produce, selected with care. The experience unfolds in six courses – a tasting menu that is both singular and ephemeral, orchestrated by the duo’s creativity. This is modern cuisine rooted in the Norman landscape, from field to shore.

Recognition for Quality and Value

Roze’s commitment to thoughtful, seasonal cooking has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand – an award that highlights good quality and good value. It is a fitting nod to a kitchen that prioritises honest, flavourful food without pretension. The restaurant is open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday, and for dinner Wednesday through Saturday.
