The story
Le Bistrot de Cancale sits at Port-Mer, where the tides of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel shape the day’s catch. It is one of the tables of Maisons de Bricourt, the Roellinger family’s collection of restaurants, hotels, and patisseries along the Emerald Coast. Here, the kitchen turns out seafood that is direct, honest, and governed by the rhythm of the tides.
The restaurant is recognised with a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to its consistent quality and the assured hand of the Roellinger team. The setting is relaxed: a terrace open from May to September, indoor tables, and a pace that suits both a long lunch and a leisurely dinner. The menu changes with the market, but the focus remains firmly on the sea—the oysters, the fish, the shellfish that define Cancale’s character.
Le Bistrot de Cancale operates under the same philosophy as the group’s acclaimed sibling, Le Coquillage, but with a more informal spirit. The Roellinger name is synonymous with spice and precision, and echoes of that approach appear in the bistro’s cooking. The wine list, like the menu, is chosen to complement the coastal ingredients.
Because the restaurant is part of a larger estate, guests staying at Château Richeux, Les Rimains, or the Ferme du Vent can book a table here as easily as they can walk down to the port. The bistro fills a particular niche: a place where the precision of a Michelin-approved kitchen meets the easy cadence of a seaside lunch.
The bistro is open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday. Arrival for lunch is at 12h or 12h30; for dinner, between 19h30 and 20h. Reservations are essential, and a bank imprint is required to secure the booking. Cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours before the service; after that, a fee of 50€ per person applies. The terrace is a particular draw in warm weather, overlooking the boats and the ever-present sea air.
